Artificial Intelligence (AI) started in the 1950s but it’s a hot topic today because the internet has opened new doors for aggregating data. AI is a method of making a computer or software think intelligently like the human mind. The differentiator is that AI technology can process large amounts of data in ways, unlike humans. The goal of AI is to perform tasks such as recognizing patterns, making decisions, and judging like humans. AI applications include speech and facial recognition, autonomous vehicles, robotics, fraud detection, chatbots and smart home systems. PWC predicts that AI could contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2035.1
In the workforce, AI is anticipated to displace 85 million jobs but create 97 million new ones, resulting in a net gain of 12 million jobs.2 Industries such as healthcare, finance, retail and manufacturing are leveraging AI to improve efficiency, personalize services, and optimize operations. As AI continues to evolve, its integration into daily life and business operations is reshaping the global landscape, offering new opportunities and challenges.
As part of Advocate for the Innocent’s (AFTI) mission, we incorporate AI to expedite our efforts. Our Founder and President, Renee Medema, attends numerous webinars and meets with experts to obtain a wide range of information related to various AI topics. Some ways AFTI is using AI:
- Generates content for website inclusion, allowing for review rather than initial creation
- Developed policies for the organization (11 in 2 hours)
- Developed a grant writing process (saves 20-30 hours per grant)
- Summarize content (27-page document shortened in minutes to 3 short paragraphs)
- Generate fundraising ideas (10-15 new ideas generated in seconds)
- Created a video for National Child Abuse Awareness Month in less than 2 hours
- Developed 5 marketing campaigns for the year within less than 1 hour
As AFTI continues to grow, we will develop and incorporate new processes and procedures to further incorporate AI. The amount of time and resources it offers is priceless. If you aren’t familiar with AI, Chat GPT 3.5 is a good place to start and it’s free. Chat GPT 4.0 offers access to more current resources/data and has greater capabilities ($20/month). Mindsmith creates presentations and has a free version, CoGrader expedites grading papers ($15/month) and Canva generates AI images for free.
